April Journal 2024

The news is replete with war, famine and genocide.U.S. sends money to aid non Americans as a trend, and Americans are asking for a divestment of war, but nobody seems to care about our votes anymore.

Palestine marches are taking the charge. African channels and social media report dire circumstances in the Congo, Sudan. Zimbabwe has a gold backed currency. European want to manage black wealth, feel the people can not manage themselves without their help.

Ethiopia also was attempting to ring the bell if crimes against humanity. The world has tunnel vision, and people are overwhelmed by the cost of living they are seeking outs resulting in mental health issues and at it’s worst psychotic behavior.

The food, water and air are being poisoned, and the fact that any of us are living right now is by the grace of God.

So April was more jam packed then expected more than what was anticipated and certainly a renegade month.

Firstly I realized while going to performances, or open mics not to let others but my drinks. To stick to the budget with a two drink minimum to scale the night and enjoy it to it’s fullest.

This Gypzy has been out and about feeling my way through the emerging entertainment and arts scene here in Minneapolis, and to my absolute delight, because I love my city, to me it’s best in show.

Anyways change, like my twin and I reuniting after dumb long. Mi compadre, and it’s amazing re-establishing our bond.

Knowing in this art world that is the Twin Cities, I have a lot to learn and room to grow.

April 6th, 2024 was the comedy show with local comics in St. Paul. I attended the show with my sister Anita and my cousin Lashonda. Between the three of us it was a party, oh and the comics were alright too.

Then there was open Mic Thursday, I made my come back after fumbling during my performance 2 weeks prior in March. I was coached by my big brother in the game Frank Sentwali to come back as a poet, and I did.

This led to me registering for an Poetry Slam Event with $500 on the table. The night was costly and in short, I didn’t get pass the 1st round, but for what I did do, I consider it a success. See footage below.

My poem called These Things that the Conscious Self had shattered

The sheer difficulty of having someone there to film as I move through time and space has brought this whole thing to the table. So very soon there will be more footage to show outside of my personal journalism.

MN Black Fashion week is here, they have a gala, but I was personally invited to attend The Hope Gala, so that is the event this year. There is Toussaint film in May 24th 2024, he is my favorite artist in this era, I hardly miss a show.

More to come in May open mics, maybe I can get some footage.

Thank you for joining me, until next time!
