October Journal 2023

I had a beautiful opportunity to be a cat mom for about 3 weeks. The reason why the time was so short is because my apartment had some pretty tall demands and I could not afford to keep Frankie.

I learned a lot about myself while being both a cat and plant mom. However realistically I have a busy life. I work in office 4 days a week, I recently started volunteering at Art Buddies, an after school program, that has been adding very richly to my life.

I had a few meet up, and dinners with friends, and a very glamorous dinner with my sister, that was shall I say, pretty pricey.

Mentioned in an earlier post, there was a brunch that My Mom and I attended where we met a lot of her neighbors and everyone after a while seemed to have known each other for years, though we just met. Alicia from CA, and Joe from New York married, moved to Minnesota, and gave us all personal invitations to attend. I want to get them a snake plant for their home, and a great bottle of wine..Perhaps this weekend.

Then there was the over all budget, paying bills, cleaning up and getting organized does not leave a lot of time to cuddle with Frankie. Besides she was a long hair and was banned frim my room so that my bed stays free from cat dander.

It was hard to let her go, but she needed a forever home, and no doubt more attention than I could give her.

When I stay in, I am often cooking, writing, painting or dancing….She must have thought, “Does this women ever sit down”…sure to read the Bible or watch movies, sometimes documentaries. I saw through Frankie how busy I am….

I also went to see George Floyd square in Minneapolis on what would have been his 50th Birthday. I remember feeling as if the place was unreal, unkept, and just a public scar, unhealed and anger just grows there…A lady yelled at me while I was in shock to rhe fact my city had such a deep wound, I didn’t ask to release a balloon in his honor, something seemed off in my spirit. I was off for a whole week after, and did need to recover.

That same night I went to Pimento’s to enjoy some music, and dance the night away.

As mentioned I had dinner planned with friends, one I brought bday gift to my friend Jennifer. We chatted about growing older, wiser, relationship, situationships, and she sent me home with my favoite Jollof Rice. Shout out to Nigeria!

The next dinner was with Hailey, a co worker and friend, who has also been my supervisor. She is a new Mom and wife and has the adventure of trying to keep her child around faith based institutions, the pressures of working while parenting, all the things. She has taught me so much over the years. She brought me a copy of a book, “Love does..” It changed my world and shifted my focus.

Then it was 2 weeks later a dinner at the Aster Cafe with Minji. She was promoted and now works amongst lawyers in a new role I am so excited for her. I ran to be on time from Art Buddies, to the Aster.

We have been having dinner at the Aster since we met 5 years ago. It was a beautiful night, but my stomach was on the fritz for some reason..We still had a great time.

Then it was RH Rooftop, with my very sophisticated sister Tiffany. I have always marveled at my Mom’s style, and Tiffany’s style for sure. They remind me that I deserve nice things, and the princess comes out full force. I may have felt a little dressed down, but a time was had. It was super cold that night, but we didn’t let it spoil our plans…Oh no!

Also October just felt like romance, with the leaves, need for cozy spaces, and seeing a special someone more than usual.

I feel growrh in the air.

Thank you for joining me, until next time!
