A few weeks back while sitting outside in my Mom’s She Shack one of her new neighbor couples came over and introduced themselves to us. They sat and talked to us for a while before going on to the rest of their walk. We were delighted to meet this young couple with an awesome love story. Alicia is from California and Joe is from New York, and their love story started in Memphis, and over time migrated to the Twin Cities. Now that they are new homeowners they were so excited for their new beginnings.
Of course after meeting them, we were excited for them.

About a week ago my Mom texted me and told me that we had been invited to attend a brunch/ housewarming party, to which eagerly said yes, they seemed very cool.

When we got there there were other neighbor’s over, we introduced ourselves after being introduced by Alicia and Joe. I tried to recall all of the names, I know there was Stacy, and her two kids and husband, Violet and her daughter, Violet was 100 years young and moved around like she could beat me in roller skating. There was Melissa, and Josh, and a few other couples, all neighbor’s, there was Peggy Sue the retired lawyer, newly back from Texas, and a few others whose names escapes me, we all talked amongst each other and realized that Alicia and Joe went house to house inviting their neighbors to all fellowship together.

They had a great assortment, and my favorite drink of the evening was a spiced cider with a splash of Irish Whisky, which was definitely the good stuff, because all I could take was a titch of it.
The conversation shifted throughout the few hours we stayed, it was as if we had known each other for years, it was a truly amazing time.

I made mention that October would be way more about spending time with loved ones, and having close connections that are intentional and that surely match the same energy. I got a ride from my friend Mariah to start on my way to My Mom and we talked about art by Andy Worhal and Basquiat, the destitution of artists, and the very healthy artists that managed not to be consumed by a deadly drug.

So much intriguing salon talk that was just interesting and eye opening at the same time, and the conversations at the brunch also varied from education, love and relationships, parents raising talented children, and maintaining a sense of balance. We talked about Minnesota sports teams, and local restaurants to check out. We learned each other’s professions, and the neighbors talked about how they are just getting to know each other, but you would not know it because the vibe was so familiar.

After we left my Mom and I realized that it had taken a couple who are from both the East and West Coast to bring the neighbors together, and after the isolation of COVID, what is undeniable is that people need people, good people in fact.
Thank you for joining me, Until next time!
